It's been a national debate for years - whether kids and teens should stay away from energy drinks.
Well now the American Academy of Pediatrics is urging parents to do just that - saying that kids are more vulnerable to the contents of energy drinks than grownups. In addition - they contains caffeine and other stimulant substances that aren't nutritional.
Energy drinks are essentially, stimulants.. They stress the body - and as a child or growing teenager, that's the last thing you want to do. Some energy drinks have as much caffeine as 5 cups of coffee or 10 times as much as a can of cola. Many also have an "energy blend" which is a mixture of herbs that are natural stimulants. Not to mention, they may also contain large amounts of sugar. There aren't any documented cases of harm directly linked to these beverages, but in rare cases stimulants can cause your heart to beat faster - and may even lead to seizures.
Many adults often use energy drinks when exercising, but kids and teens haven't developed as much and could be more vulnerable to the effects of energy drinks.

Could shaking hands be hazardous to your health?
Although this casual contact slightly increases your risk of catching something.. New research shows it is not likely to be anything dangerous like the harmful bacteria mrsa. This study included over 5 thousand people and found that only three cases of staph were passed from one person to the other.. None of them the dreaded mrsa. In fact, overall 93 percent of the bacteria was harmless.
Still, the best way to lower your exposure and spread of bacteria and other germs is by frequently washing your hands.
If you're visiting a public place, like an exercise gym, make sure to thoroughly wash your hands after shaking hands or working out. This simple practice can drastically reduce the number of hazardous bacteria on your hands.
