No magic bullet for weight loss:

A public watch dog group wants to pull the popular weight loss drugs = Alli and Xenical = off the market.  The group, public citizen says the drugs have dangerous side effects that can cause liver damage, pancreatitis and kidney stones.

Other critics charge that the drugs cause significant damage to multiple crucial organs.  An estimated 40-million people take either Xenical or Alli. The drugs are said to work by blocking the absorption of fat in the body.

Sales for both drugs have declined over the last decade.

Uh and um may help kids learn language

Do you say um... Or uh a lot when you speak?

If you do it when you talk to your kids... It may actually help them learn language.  It seems that parents who use those phrases when they're searching for a word are not setting a bad example for their impressionable toddlers...  They’re helping them learn by indirectly causing them to pay attention.  According to a new study children ages 18 to 30 months, actually pay more attention when a parent says something like...  Look at the uh... "Or if they fumble for a word.  This pause signals to children that they should pay close attention to what's being said because they’re about to learn something new.

So, um - what do you think about that?
