Today's Health Report

Last updated 6 years ago

Women, you may not believe it but there may be a real health benefit to hot flashes!  New research from Brigham and Women's Hospital suggests that women who have early menopause are at lower risk for heart attack and death.  This is in sharp contrast to women who have never had hot flashes or those who experience symptoms later in menopause.  Over 60-thousand women were followed over ten years for this study.  Those with early hot flashes and night sweats had a 17% lower risk of stroke and an 11% lower risk of heart disease and death.

Although doctors can't explain why, the good news is about three quarters of women experience hot flashes or night sweats early in menopause.
