American Academy of Personal Training (AAPT) Becomes First Personal Training School to Receive Accreditation

Last updated 5 years ago

AAPT is now the only nationally accredited, state-licensed curriculum for personal trainers.

The American Academy of Personal Training (AAPT), (http://www.aapt.edu) has been awarded national accreditation by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), making AAPT the first and only personal training school in the nation to achieve this standard. Headquartered in New York City with a branch in Boston, AAPT is a private occupational school that is internationally recognized for its innovative hands-on approach to personal training education and certification. Its intensive combination of 150 hours of classroom lecture and 150 hours of laboratory instruction covers areas including exercise science, customized programming, injury prevention and business planning.

This COE accreditation denotes that AAPT has undergone an extensive self-study and review process and has been judged by the Commission as meeting the standards and conditions for student achievement. In addition, the accreditation allows for personal training students to apply for financing through government programs.

“Achieving COE accreditation separates AAPT from every personal training school throughout the country and is a major development for an industry that lacks regulation and credentialing requirements,” said Harry Hanson, President and Director of AAPT. “It is a necessary step in an effort to raise fitness industry standards and provides myriad new possibilities for government support and oversight, including financial assistance for students in need, making our educational offerings and job placement services available to a greater number of aspiring personal trainers. Even in a tough economy we get our graduates jobs. Nothing gives me greater personal satisfaction.”

Hanson continues, “Our graduates enter the workforce with a breadth of knowledge and skills that exceed established standards and set them apart from trainers who are certified online. Our goal is to see formal education become a legal requirement for personal trainers.”

With COE accreditation AAPT has taken a giant step toward accomplishing that goal, placing them firmly in the lead to meet the rapidly growing demand for qualified training professionals.
